Michael Alter brings to Vanco over 25 years of experience as a successful CEO, leader and entrepreneur. Most recently, he is serving as an Entrepreneur in Residence and Adjunct Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.
He joined Vanco as a Board Member and Advisor in January 2017, and has served as CEO of The Tie Bar as well as a Co-Founder and CEO of SurePayroll. He is also a Board Member of Max Digital and Nambe. Earlier in his career, he held roles as a Consultant at McKinsey and Company and in Sales with IBM.
Michael graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and earned his MBA at Harvard Business School. He lives in Chicago with his wife and three children.
He is a Sustaining Board Member and past President of the Illinois chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and a former Chapter Officer of the Chicago Chapter of the Young President’s Organization.
A past recipient of the Illinois Technology Association’s CityLIGHTS CEO of the Year Award, Alter has been a nationally recognized spokesman on business issues, having served as a columnist for INC.com and appearing regularly in media outlets nationwide, including Bloomberg TV and the Wall Street Journal.
